1. The knowledge that I have gained in this course helps me to understand the framework of an innovation curriculum and the key components that support it. In the future, this knowledge will enable me to assist with creating a mission statement which outlines a nursing organization?s purpose and responsibilities; the teaching philosophy which guides the principles; and the organizing framework which provides the structure glue to achieve the outcomes, competencies, behaviors and skills of the graduate nurse which must be mastered.

I am prepared to assist with designing a nursing curriculum based upon the needs of the community and influenced by external and internal factors. My understanding of the accreditation process of both accrediting association, ACEN and CCE, will help me to assist the nursing school through the process of self-study, peer review, visit, written and oral analyses and follow up by the accrediting association.

I am now knowledgable about the importance of supporting the changing healthcare environment through curriculum developement which addresses global violence and polities, environment changes, technological revolution and demographics of patients and students (Heller, Oros, Durney-Crowley, 2010).

2. According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) nurses in the future must be able to handle the diverse needs of a changing healthcare system. An educational experience that prepares nurses is imperative to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The IOM recommends that nurses be educated to deliver patient centered care in conjunction with other health team members, practice evidence based medicine, strive for quality improvement, and utilize informatics to meet the demands of healthcare. Educators are faced with the challenged to provide students with a curriculum that encompasses all the learning opportunities to satisfy the IOM's recommendation. This course has provided me with the knowledge on how to ensure a nursing curriculum provides students with the ability to achieve these recommendations. As an educator I will be able to help develop and support nursing education mission statements and philosophies of learning institutions. I have gained valuable knowledge on the importance of an educational framework for a curriculum and how to develop program outcomes to facilitate success of an educational experiences. Validating nursing knowledge through competencies provides students with predetermined goals of education and ensures all future nurses will be able to meet the needs of the future of healthcare (Morris and Hancock, 2013).
